See our lineup below:
SEPTEMBER 7 - Blues
Jimmie Vaughan AND The Tilt-A-Whirl Band Featuring Lou Ann Barton
Four-time Grammy Award-winning Jimmie Vaughan’s style as a player, songwriter and bandleader can be thought of as an amalgamation of so many influences. He utilizes raw emotion, simplicity, and an elegance that is powerful and accessible, yet communicates exactly what he feels inside.
Vaughan revitalizes the classic blues and soul that informs his music. It’s an approach that has earned him the respect of many of the greats of contemporary music, and guest appearances on such albums as B.B. King and Eric Clapton’s Riding With The King, Bob Dylan’s Under The Red Sky, Willie Nelson’s Milk Cow Blues, Carlos Santana’s Havana Moon and Don Henley’s Inside Job.
Jimmie Vaughan is the brother of the late Stevie Ray Vaughan.
Opening Performance: Big Mike & The Booty Papas
Hosted By: Black Jack, WRFG
September 21 - Zydeco
Joe Sample & The CreoleJoe Band Featuring Ray Parker, Jr.
In 1999 Joe Sample moved back to his hometown of Houston, Texas and rediscovered the “la la music” that was so much a part of his youth. Cajun accordion, Mississippi and Texas Delta Blues, and some good old Texas two step, all conspiring to create what Joe refers to as, Creole Folk Music. The CreoleJoe Band features Joe Sample on accordion; the legendary Ray Parker Jr. on guitar & vocals; from New Orleans: vocalist Erica Falls, drummer Raymond Weber, scrubboardist and vocalist Alex McDonald; guitarist June Yamaguchi; fellow Houstonian Skip Nallia on keyboards; and his son, Nick Sample on bass and vocals - make up The CreoleJoe Band - a crazy and colorful reflection of their collective musical backgrounds, sure to put a smile on your face and a jump in your step. Zydeco music lovers are in for a special treat!
Opening Performance: The Bonaventure Quartet
Hosted By: Zydeco Jo, WRFG
SEPTEMBER 28 - Jazz
Three-time GRAMMY nominee Boney James has returned with a dynamic, genre-busting album "The Beat". One of the most successful instrumental artists of our time with sales totaling over 3 million records, Boney's new project fuses his R&B/Jazz roots with Latin rhythm and percussion. In addition to his GRAMMY nominations, Boney is a Soul Train Award winner (Best Jazz Album) and has been honored with an NAACP Image Award nomination for Best Jazz Album. He has accumulated four
RIAA Certified Gold Records. To date, nine of Boney's albums have reached No. 1 on the Billboard Contemporary Jazz Chart and two have reached the top 10 on the R&B Albums Chart, a rare feat for an instrumental artist.
Boney is also renowned for his compelling live performances.
Boney resides in Los Angeles with his wife, award winning actress-filmmaker Lily Mariye (best known as Nurse Lily Jarvik on ER for 15 seasons).
Opening Performance: Angella Christie
OCTOBER 5 - Jazz
Born in Brooklyn, bandleader Jay Beckenstein grew up listening to the music of Louis Armstrong, Charlie Parker, Sonny Rollins and Dizzy Gillespie, and started playing the saxophone at age seven. As Spyro Gyra contemplates upcoming milestones to its storied career, it’s tempting to fall back on the Grateful Dead lyric, “What a long strange trip it’s been” to describe it. During that time, they have performed over five thousand shows, released twenty-nine albums (not counting “Best Of…” compilations) selling over ten million albums while also achieving one platinum and two gold albums.
Milestones include 2012 celebrating thirty-five years since their first album release and in 2014 they’ll celebrate 40 years as a band. They show little signs of wanting to slow down either, as they garnered Grammy® nominations for each of their last four albums.
Opening Performances: Straight Ahead
